Photoshop Tutorial - Changing Hair Color

Photoshop Tips - Changing Hair Color

In this Photoshop tutorial, I try to change hair color with photoshop as seen in the picture above.

Image I use is shown below. I got this image from searching on google. Origin of this picture is from site simplehairstyles.blogspot.com.

original

1. The first step, run photoshop and open that image. It'd better to be copied first in order to compare between the original one with the result.

2. Next, make a selection on the hair. I use Pen Tool to create paths, and then press CTRL + ENTER to convert path into selection.

3. Press CTRL + C to copy the selected part. Then press CTRL + V. Now there are two layers. The first one is the original, and the second is the copy.

4. Now let's make a variation of color to the hair. Click Image > Adjustments > Variations. We'll see a variety of hair colors. First, we must click on the Original image first (on top) to start changing color. Then choose from More Green, More Blue, More Yellow, and so on, according to the color you want to apply to the hair. Click a few times until the hair color fits your wish. For me, I click on the picture More Red approximately twice to make the hair look reddish brown. Remember to always see the image results (Current Pick). You can combine any color for variation. When finished, click the OK button.

5. The result will look like this:

6. Next, to spruce up the color around the hair edges, use the Eraser Tool. To get more subtle cut, set the Opacity to 50%, use the Brush mode, select the hardness 0%, and the master diameter select 10.

7. Merge both layers by clicking Layer > Merge Down. Now only one layer remaining.

8. Repeat steps 2 to 6 to change the hair on the left. Then we will get the final result as follows:

Here are two other results by using green and blue color: Thats all. Hopefully useful to you.
