Editing blogger template is somewhat tricky. Although accustomed to editing, but sometimes still make mistakes, especially for beginners. In this post, I will share some tips that we should do if want to edit the blogger template html. With these tips, hopefully can reduce mistake that sometimes occur.
1. Backup before editing the template
Sometimes one is too confident that he/she will not make mistake while editing the template. By doing a backup before changing it, we will not have to worry if the result is far from the expected or if the error is unrepaired. Because backups can restore the template to its previous state.
How to backup blogger template is very easy. Simply by clicking on the link "Download Full Template" and then saving the template file to computer. And if unrepaired error occurs, we just upload that template file.
2. Select the "Expand Widget Template" check box
By selecting "Expand Widget Templates" check box, all the html code in the template will be displayed. If not, it is possible there will be some codes we won't find.
3. Facilitate the search for specific code using Ctrl+F
To expedite and facilitate the search for a specific code, press Ctrl + F and write the code. This will greatly save our time. If the code we are looking for is not found, try to find a part of the code. For example if want to find "<h4><data:post.backlinksLabel/></h4>", if not found, try searching for "data: post.backlinksLabel".
4. Tips to Overcome Errors When Updating Template
When an error occurs on the template html, blogger will not save / update it. Instead, it will display error messages like the following:
If this happens, we have to check back every text we change or add. Usually the error happens if we forget to put the closing tag, for example writing <DIV ... > but not closed with </DIV>, or typing <BR> instead of <BR/>. I often get this error.
If we are not sure of any codes that has been changed or added whether have mistakes or not, clicking the "CLEAR EDITS" button will return the entire code into the original.
Well, I think this enough for now, you also certainly have different experiences, don't you?
