Improving Computer Performance By Disabling File Indexing on Windows XP

File Indexing facility is handy so that you can do a search for files more quickly. It works by indexing the contents of files in the specific drive. However, this feature will take a lot of space of your hard drive and also when the Windows XP is doing the indexing process, then other programs' process will also get affected (get slow). So if you disable this feature, the performance (speed) of your computer will be increased. But if you very often do a search for files, then you should not need to do this way.

As for how to disable the File Indexing on Windows XP, as follows:

- Open the Windows Explorer (press the Windows key + E)

- Right-click on drive C, then select Properties.

- In the Properties dialog box, clear the Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching checkbox.
